To the right, you will find all the standards I have employed in designing the American Government curriculum. These standards have been formulated by district, state, and national stakeholders and include the most essential themes of American Government.
Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning Some parents and educators have expressed concern that standards promote memorization of bullet-points in lieu of critical thinking. While the claim may have merit if teachers implement them improperly, standards provide a rich framework accommodating all the classical styles of learning, from understanding the definition of a concept to designing a creative synthesis of information in the form of a project or presentation. Ultimately, standards ensure teachers have tools sufficient to quantify student learning, and the public has a method with which to ensure teachers fulfill the great responsibilities entrusted to them: educating the next generation. |
